Economic Revival, National Security, and Sustainability through Advancement of Science, Technology, and Innovation

The third decade of the 21^st century has brought humanity to the brink of several global catastrophes where the aftershocks of Covid-19 pandemic, overpopulation, climate change, dwindling natural resources, and warfare have all culminated in a real challenge to our future existence. Global food security, equitable provision of health and social security, provision of education, and enforcement of law and order have all been challenged in ways that would not have been anticipated at the beginning of the new millennium. South Asian countries have been grappling with the economic slowdown in the post covid era, but Sri Lanka in particular, with its over-reliance on traditional exports, tourism, and constant geopolitical battles has had its livelihood being affected most.

It is in this context that we should analyze the strategic role of the academia of the country to collectively come together and facilitate the transfer of knowledge, skills, and solutions using science, technology, and innovation to achieve a profound impact on reviving the trajectory of the nation’s economy, to achieve sustainable economic growth coupled with an environment of justice and enhanced security for all. The International Research Conference, with its theme selection for 2022, aims to provide a multi-professional platform to all the scholars based in Sri Lanka or overseas to bring in their innovative research and ideas to fulfill this national responsibility thrust upon all of us.
